Left and Right Flynn Replica EL Tapes

The EL Tape is 30 cm from top to tail with the stick and hoop that comes in near the shoulder adding another 8cm 

The tape is just 350 microns thick – that is 1/3rd of a millimeter!

Sticky back velcro is supplied that is the exact width of the EL Tape – be careful putting it on as that glue is VERY sticky

You must sew the other part of the velcro onto the costume making it very convenient to attach and remove

Of course you dont need to use the velcro and fix it any way you choose

The Mid-Line

Sam Flynn has a small line of light that runs down the middle of his chest. This is lit by the 1cm X15cm EL Tape provided. This tape can be easily cut to shape if you prefer it smaller

The EL Tape is curved so is 37 cm from top to tail – it has been designed to go on the back round the ID disc and curve over the shoulder

SPLITTERS

This is how we recommend using the splitters

A 2-way splitter coming straight from the Inverter – this divides the front and the back:

The First channel goes to a 3-way splitter

to power the front of the costume – The left and right Flynn Tape plus the mid-line

The Second channel

can be fitted with the extender wire and this will allow it to reach to the back of the costume

A 3-way splitter attaches to this:

1 channel does the 1cm X 15cm left arm

2nd channel does the left 2cm X 40cm curved outline

the 3rd channel has another 3 way splitter on it

1st channel attaches to the ID Disc

2nd Channel has the Right 2cm X 40cm curved outline

3rd channel does the 1cm X 15cm right arm

Depending on where you have the inverter, you may or may not need the extender wire

The suggested setup is:

The Driver/Inverter is held on the body near the chest

One Two-way-splitter comes out and one channel goes off to the round panel acting as the Arc Reactor near the chest

The other channel has a second two way splitter going off to the helmet to power the 3cmX5cm EL Panels for the eyes 

By having it on a second 2-way-splitter it makes it easier to unplug and remove the helmet – if it all runs off a 3-way-splitter, which it could, it would not be so easy to unplug the head mask

Two of these splits has another 3-way splitter for each of the parts on the leg

The third has a 2-way splitter attached that runs round the back to clip into the pair of EL Sacral pieces

A 1.2metre extender wire is also provided – this may not be needed but gives you more options of where the driver is kept on your body

The three pieces of EL Tape that run down the leg are:

1) TRON BOOT

This futuristic piece of footwear is designed to run down the ankle and wrap around the ankle and is a great finishing touch to any tron costume (these are also available in our store in white,  and orange)

2) KNEE JOINT

Running up from the boot piece, this piece of EL Tape takes an angle round the knee, exactly as in the original costumes

This has been made to largest size and will not fit everyone so it has been designed so you can just snip it down to the right size for you

That’s right, it really is as easy as just cutting the unwanted part off either or both ends (sealing the cut with sellotape, glue or clear nail varnish is highly recommended)

3) 2cm x 25cm EL Tape

Another piece that can be cut to size is this straight piece of EL Tape that runs from the Knee Joint up to join the top half of the costume

Coming off the two way splitter at the back of the costume:

3) EL SACRAL

This pair of pieces sits at the base of the spine and i have to say looks pretty awesome

Ladies and/or Gentlemen may I please present a Electroluminescent Panel and Driver/Inverter for the Spektrum controllers DX6i and DX7.

For the DX7 you must trim a little off the bottom of this panel (use sharp scissors and just cut it to shape)

For the DX6i you must cut a little off the end of the Panel

(For other models you must measure the screen size to see if it will fit)

The Panel size is 85mm x 55mm with a lit area of 80mm x 50mm

The driver should be run straight off the device you are backlighting. 

We have a choice of tiny waterproof  4.5v, 6v, 9v or 12v drivers that are designed as small as possible so as not to take up too much space (29mm X 19mm X 24mm (LxWxH))

Installing an EL Panel as a backlight is a fairly easy procedure that basically involves accessing the screen of your device, cutting the EL Panel to the desired size, then wiring the driver so it is powered by the device, then finally putting it all back together

EL Driver

The Driver takes 2 X AA batteries – it works by having a built in voltage inverter that ‘inverts’ the 3 Volts from the batteries up to the 100 Volts needed to make the EL Wire glow.

And has a removable clip on it so you can either clip it to clothes or have it tucked inside the costume.

EL wire has loads of uses

It looks amazing when decorating the interior or exterior of cars, can be used inside and outside houses and can even be threaded into clothes and hats

This wire can be cut into smaller lengths and attached to another driver.

Our drivers can run many different strips of wire as long as the total length of the wire is under the driver’s maximum capacity.

With some care, the EL wire can be attached to speaker wire to make patterns or extend the wire over gaps where it isn’t needed.

Joining tape and heatshrink tubing are also available if you want to cut the EL wire and rejoin it or perhaps attach some wire to a different driver.

Cutting the wire into the length you choose is simple… but rejoining it takes care and attention.

You will also definitely need some wirestrippers.

You can happily use the joining tape and heatshrink tubing supplied for a decent join but if the joint is likely to encounter stress (eg if it is threaded into clothes that will then be bent and jostle) or if the join may be hard to reach (eg behind a panel in a car) then we would advise soldering to avoid future hassle.

It is a cliche to say you are only limited by your imagination but with EL wire it is true!!!

At the front of the costume two special 3-way ‘SML’ splitters comes off for the left and right hand side. The Short channel can be used for these EL Hoops

EL Curve and 15cm stripe

A 3-way splitter attaches to the driver

One of these channels has a 2-way splitter attached that runs round the back to clip into the pair of EL Sacral pieces

The other two channels have a special ‘3 way Small Midi and Long’ splitter attached to them that run down each leg

These SML splitters have:

one Short channel that plugs to the 25cm Tape.

Then the Middle channel plugs into the Knee Joint section

The Long channel goes down to the Shin to plug into the Double Hoop

The three pieces of EL Tape that run down the leg are:

1) SHIN

This 15cm Double Hoop is designed to run from your shin to the ankle to give a great finishing touch to any tron costume (these are also available for other parts of your tron costume in our store

2) KNEE JOINT

Running up from the boot piece, this piece of EL Tape takes an angle round the knee, exactly as in the original costumes

This has been made to largest size and will not fit everyone so it has been designed so you can just snip it down to the right size for you

That’s right, it really is as easy as just cutting the unwanted part off either or both ends (sealing the cut with sellotape, glue or clear nail varnish is highly recommended)

3) 2cm x 25cm EL Tape

Another piece that can be cut to size is this straight piece of EL Tape that runs from the Knee Joint up to join the top half of the costume

EL wire has loads of uses

It looks amazing when decorating the interior or exterior of cars, can be used inside and outside houses and can even be threaded into clothes and hats

Our drivers can run many different strips of wire as long as the total length of the wire is under the driver’s maximum capacity.

It is easier to buy it from us with the connectors attached but if you need to, then with some care, the EL wire can be attached to speaker wire to make patterns or extend the wire over gaps where it isn’t needed.

Joining tape and tubing for attaching EL Wire is available from our online store.
This is if you want to cut the EL wire and rejoin it or perhaps attach some wire to a different driver.

Cutting the wire into the length you choose is simple… but rejoining it takes care and attention.

You will also definitely need some wirestrippers

It is also recommended to place this joint away from whereis likely to encounter stress (eg if it is threaded into clothes that will then be bent and jostled – try to keep this joint out for harms way – eg avoid putting it at the elbows)
